Concerned Spouses Rely on Spy Gear over Private Investigators

All of the signs of a cheating spouse are there. She is late most evenings. He’s more protective of his cell phone. She’s online more often and even has a new e-mail account.

Many people turn to spy gear such as covert GPS tracking devices and spy cameras to find out whether or not a spouse is cheating. The do-it-yourself approach to private investigation is less expensive than hiring a private investigator and it can be done using simple technology.

Despite what many popular women’s magazines or daytime talk shows might lead us to believe, infidelity is not all that prevalent. In fact, according to a 2006 report completed by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, only 15% to 18% of married people cheat on their spouses.

With this remarkably low number of cheating spouses, it is important to investigate before confronting a spouse. A distant husband or a suddenly busy wife does not necessarily mean he or she is a cheater.

Covert GPS Tracking, the Preferred Spy Gear

GPS (global positioning systems) tracking devices can be small enough to fit in the palm of a hand and easily hidden in the trunk of a car. Covert GPS tracking devices are ideal for tracking the location of a vehicle either in real time or as stored data.

The location data is sent to one or more satellites. Depending on the type of GPS device used, the data is either stored on a chip or sent to an online database.

Many suspecting spouses choose this type of spy gear because it is simple, inconspicuous, and it provides concrete evidence to the whereabouts of their spouse. Many feel it’s better to know where the spouse is and know when he or she is lying about it.

Covert GPS Tracking and Privacy

Covert GPS tracking is a relatively new technology, which means privacy law is evolving. In several United States federal criminal cases it’s been determined that police need a warrant unless the covert GPS tracking device is placed on a vehicle in a public place. However, even this law varies from state to state.

For those tracking a spouse, the evidence gathered won’t be used in a court of law so a warrant isn’t necessary. However, some privacy laws still apply. Those who use GPS should only place the device in the spouse’s vehicle. Respect the privacy of the suspected lover and stay protected from the law.

Be Prepared for the Results

It is not enough to just know how to use covert GPS tracking. The user must also be prepared for the information revealed.

If it turns out the husband or wife is cheating, is the user prepared to confront the spouse or will it just bring more heartbreak? What happens if the covert GPS tracking device is discovered by the spouse and there is no adultery taking place?

Sometimes these risks are worth taking just for the peace of mind. But that decision can only be made by the suspicious spouse. Fortunately, spy gear is affordable and accessible to the average person, not just private investigators.
